Forum 76 Short Course Model Based Systems Engineering

When:  Sep 24, 2020 from 10:00 to 14:00 (ET)
Short Course on Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE)
Virtual | Go-To-Webinar
September 24-25, 2020
10 am - 2 pm EDT (7-11 am PDT) both days
Cost: US$295.00/pp
Instructor: Mr. Barry Papke

In this professional development course, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) expert Barry Papke provides a thorough introduction to MBSE. The course will cover systems modeling using the Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and the Enterprise Architecture using the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF).

The introduction to SysML will provide a tutorial on its fundamentals of MBSE. Students will learn the key elements of the language syntax, semantics diagram types and perform a small hands-on lab exercise. This section also addresses how modeling with SysML applies to the SE Lifecycle (Systems Engineering "V") and the fundamental differences between document-based methods to model-based methods.

UAF is an Enterprise Architecture modeling language used to define enterprises in architecture frameworks such as DODAF, MODAF, DNDAF, etc. In the introduction to the Framework, students will receive an overview of the differences between Enterprise Architecture and System Design, the roll of Enterprise Architecture in the SE Lifecycle with an overview of the framework itself.
The class will not include hands-on use of the modeling tools, but will include an instructor led demonstration of both SysML and UAF model examples.

About the instructor: Barry Papke is the Director of Professional Services for No Magic Inc. He has thirty-two years of systems engineering and operations analysis experience in the aerospace and defense industry across the entire systems engineering lifecycle from concept development through integration, test and post-delivery support.

Throughout his career he has been actively involved in application of model based methods including requirements management, cost estimation, system design, and operations analysis. Barry has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from Steven’s Institute of Technology. He is currently a member of the INCOSE Agile and Security Working Groups and the MBSE Initiative.  Barry is an OMG-Certified Systems Modelling Professional.
